Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State has empowered and trained 5,000 widows from the state’s eighteen local governments.
Ayade announced this during the launch of the state government’s widows initiative in the state’s three senatorial districts.
Represented by his Commissioner for Humanity and Social Welfare, Blessing Egbara, the governor said the empowerment which will be a continuous exercise, should be taken seriously while an immediate token sum of money will be provided for their upkeep.
He urged the widows to take advantage of both the federal and state government social safety net programmes which he said are aimed at reducing their burdens.
